To take full advantage of the buffering effect of 6d Ultra Buffer, a dose of 0.3-0.4 g of sodium bicarbonate per kg of body weight is needed in the run-up to the race final. For a 70 kg person, this equates to 21-28 g of sodium bicarbonate. This dose can be achieved by drinking 500 ml of 6d Ultra Buffer every hour during races of at least 4 hours. For shorter races, a pre-load with 6d sodium bicarbonate capsules is advised.
